In societies like the old Western or ancient Chinese Women did not as much work and had little rights.
In Austroasiatic of Southern china and Southeast Asia women did alot of work so they had alot of rights.
It's only practical. However it was a also battle of families.who would win the mother's side of the family or the father's side.
In the Austroasiatic world the father's side lost and became submissive to the mother's side of the family.Really it was a power game between the males of the wife's side and the males of the father's side.In the West and Chinese the mother's side became submissive to the father's side. The thing here is that men always had alot of rights. It's just when the father's side won men got even more rights while when the mother's side won the females got equal rights to men. This is called maternal vs paternal.Even after getting equal rights to men in the maternal society the women would have to work harder than women in the West or Northern China. For Example women in Austroasiatic culture were the construction workers and did the some of the heavy lifting when the men were out farming the wife's and husband's family farms consisting of two big fields at the mother's home and the father's family home for around 16 hours. The Husband went to live with their wifes in the home of the wife's parents because they wanted to make sure their daughter wasn't abused by the husband which is fairly common sadly. You don't want a man that is very likely stronger than your daughter hurting her or treating her unfairly. This idea was commonly held in Pre-Historic times before the invention of writing when there were many more maternal societies than paternal societies.
There were gender jobs in Austroasiatic culture
While in modern society we don't like to engender jobs to specific genders.
It was better than having few jobs or no jobs like in the Old Western culture.
What were women's jobs?
Construction worker
Finance Manager
Seller of produce
Property Owner
Foraging
Farmhand
Child rearing
Teacher
Cooking
Cleaner
Sewing
Woodcutter
Trading
Men's jobs

Jobs women and men did:
Shaman
Warrior
Singer
All families that were not royals in Austroasiatic culture went without a last name. This was likely to respect each side of the family rather than to antagonize each other.
Since the father's side of the family was submissive to the wife's family in Austroasiatic culture the children had to adopt their
mother's family last name and the Father can keep his last name of his family linage however most people excluding royals did not care about last names and it was only a later invention.
Because the woman was the Property owner they also inherit property however this Property was reserved to take care of the parents in old age so it had a function.
There may be more stuff i am missing but for now that's it.I may come back later when i remember more stuff.
